Terre du Luberon is a family business, a team consisting of brother and sister, Pierre-Louis and Cecile, and her husband Xavier. Three people with three different early work experiences coming together to grow and build our farm together. As the children and grandchildren of farmers, our connection to the land and our heritage drives us to continue the work of our ancestors, so that we too can leave a legacy for the future.
Nestled in a cool valley in the Luberon, the family farm of Terre du Luberon sits between the idyllic hilltop villages of Gordes, Goult and Roussillon.
We are both a flower and vegetable farm as well as a nursery specialising in lavender. Our crop choices reflect the particular advantages and constraints of our land and location, evolving every year.
We grow Herbes de Provence for culinary use (see the shop) and an ever-growing number of varieties of flowers, both annuals and perennials.
Our guiding principles: Care and respect for the land and soil, preserving its fertility and enhancing biodiversity across the whole spectrum – plants, animals, insects etc.
These principles are reflected in our land use – half of our acreage is left fallow, sown with green manure and grazed by our horses and sometimes our neighbours’ livestock. We systematically rotate our crops; we keep tilling of the land to a minimum; and gradually we are planting hedges.
We are certified ‘Organic’ but our work goes beyond the label – our goal of achieving a consistently more sustainable form of agriculture means we are constantly challenging the existing processes and making improvements to our farming methods.
Resource management – specifically water – has always been a priority for us, with irrigation taking place at night and using systems that minimize any waste.
Currently, our focus is on soil regeneration; increasing organic matter and working to increase water retention and fertility.
As with every year, we have many new projects in the pipeline including improving our fallow fields by integrating new livestock alongside our horses, who are both our guardians and our friends.
The will to integrate life, beauty and peace is the true spirit of Terre du Luberon.
